When it comes to finding the right business idea, is it possible to train yourself to come up with ideas for million-dollar businesses in just six months?
Well, James Altucher went from broke to starting a successful business in just six months. So how’d did he do it?
By becoming an idea machine.
What’s An Idea Machine?
An idea machine is someone who’s constantly coming up with great ideas. Not just in business but in all walks of life.
James has started 20 companies. He’s also wrote the best-selling book “Choose Yourself,” runs a hedge fund, hosts an extremely popular podcast, and frequently contributes to newspaper such as the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal.
How did he become sucessful in so many different things? Simply put, James is full of so many great ideas that he just has to go out and pursue them.
So how do you become an idea machine? How do you come up with ideas so good that you have to go out and try them?
How To Become An Idea Machine
James believes you have an idea muscle, and just like any other muscle, you have to work it to make it stronger.
For example, if you haven’t run in years and you decide to go for a jog, you’re going to have a tough time running for more than five minutes. However, if you start to run every day after a couple months, a 30 minute jog will seem easy.
James worked his idea muscle by coming up with 10 ideas every day. Not just business ideas. You have a problem, write down 10 ideas on how to solve it. Want to find a mentor? Email him 10 ideas to provide him value.
If you continue to come up with 10 ideas every day for six months, coming up with quality ideas will be second nature.
To get started, carry a small notepad with you today or use your phone and write down 10 ideas for anything you’d like. It can be business ideas, book ideas, 10 new yoga positions, whatever you’d like.
Push yourself to get to 10 ideas. After the sixth idea is where it’ll get tough, but that’s when you’re idea muscles sweat and you grow the most. That’s where the gains will come.
If you’re having trouble with coming up with a prompt, test yourself and shoot us an email with 10 ideas for great blog posts that you’d like to see us write about.
See how you feel at the end. Keep it up for a while and you’ll start seeing the difference.
Million-dollar ideas won’t seem so difficult to come up with.
Propelling Your Ideas Forward
Thinking up ideas is just the first step. Here at the 2016 Propeller Innovation Festival, we believe that an idea without action is like an airplane without forward motion. That’s why we say, “Idle Ideas Don’t Fly”.
It’s up to you to set your ideas in motion. Given the sheer number of ideas you’ll be generating once you become an idea machine, chances are many of them will be worth acting upon.
Some of your ideas will be great for you to share with other people who could benefit from them. You might want to send some of your ideas to your friends, family, clients, colleagues, etc. You can add a lot of value and solidify your relationships this way.
There will be other ideas you’ll want to keep for yourself. These might be opportunities for you to start a business, write a book, or get involved in some other worthwhile endeavor. The important thing is to take action. The ideas don’t make themselves happen. You do.
